Championnat d'Europe de kata 2008

Malte accueillera la 4ème édition du championnat d'Europe de kata, les 10 et 11 mai 2008.

Quelques points intéressants (traduction libre) :

1. Les championnats de kata organisé à Malte devraient l'être dans la forme définitive qui sera adoptée dans l'ensemble par l'IJF pour leur premier championnat du monde de Kata en 2009 (extrait du message du président de la fédération maltaise de judo, M. Envic Galea).
2. Ce sont les fédérations qui inscrivent un maximum de 3 couples par kata, les compétiteurs ne pouvant participer qu'à un seul kata. Ceux-ci doivent être âgés de minimum 18 ans et posséder le grade de 1er Dan au minimum. Les couples peuvent être mixes.

CE KATA - MALTE - Inscriptions

LA F.F.B.J. a inscrit « numériquement » deux couples, l’un en nage-no-kata, l’autre en katame-no-kata.

En effet, pour la plupart de nos compétiteurs présents au C.E. 2007 en Allemagne, l'obstacle majeur réside en l'important effort financier à consentir sur fonds propres (de l’ordre de 800 à 1000 EUR par personne), sans compte les difficultés d'organisation familiale et professionnelle engendrées par un tel déplacement.

Finalement, AUCUN compétiteur francophone ne participera au prochain C.E., ce qui constituera une malheureuse première depuis la création de ce championnat officiel en 2005.

A noter que le projet de budget soumis à la dernière A.G. de mars présentait bien une rubrique d'intervention ("Championnat Europe kata 4 couples") dans le budget de la Cellule pédagogique mais avec une dotation réduite à ... 0 EUR, et ce malgré certaines promesses faites ... Ce n'est pas la démission de Pierre S. du C.A. qui va faire avancer les choses au niveau du soutien à nos compétiteurs kata.

Dommage !

Italy has a long tradition of highly technical and stylish judo that even predates the great names of Gamba and Mariani, although both gave it extra impetus. Spain has been more recent. The reason both countries are so successful is multifactorial: (1) Large delegations from both countries have studied the past years every summer, year after year, kata at the Kodokan (2) Spain has had several visits from Shiro Yamamoto-sensei and the Italians have Shoji Sugiyama, 8th dan in residence. Sugiyama is also a Yoseikan aikido, karate and iaido practioner and is the advisor of kata to the EJU. Other strong judo countries, which used to have a strong kata tradition, such as Belgium, have lost their advantage with the departure of Ichiro Abe, the passing of Marcel Clause, the leaving of others, and the fact that the current best practitioners have chosen to be judges rather than competitors. (3) The president of the EJU/IJF Kata Committee is Capelleti, who is also Italian.. (4) The Italians have a lot of reserve. They do not have just one good couple in each kata, but several. (5) Both Spain and Italy are some of the few countries in Europe who have organized kata contests for years, whereas various other strong judo countries such as Holland, Belgium and France have started only the last couple of years. Some countries tried a long time ago, but gave up. Belgium, for example, organized a national kata championship in the early 1980's for two consecutive years, and then wrapped up the idea because of lack of interest, and increasing separation between the French- and Dutch-speaking wings; Holland until recently kept claiming they were not doing Kodokan kata but "Busen kata style", and have only recently started to give up part of their stubbernness. (6) Both the Italians and Spain have participated for years in international kata contests such as the world masters and last year's First International Kata tournament, and benefited from that exposure and experience. They were the two only countries besides Japan who were at a truly competitive level. They won all bronze medals and virtually all 4th places, I believe. (7) Because of the long-time participation, Italy and Spain have good contacts with the Kodokan and are well known. Because they hold the leading positions in the IJF and EJU kata world, judging was positively biased towards them.
